Fifa World Cup Trophy Cake

Sunday, July 11th, 2010 by rsokhi

With all the hysteria around the World Cup, and the finals being tonight, I thought it’d be a good idea to showcase a couple Fifa Trophy Cakes we’ve done. In fact, we did two trophies, and both happened to be in the same week!  Take a look–obviously we took two slightly different approaches to the cake:

Here’s a shot of them in our walk-in (with other cakes for that week). One was vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream and the other dense chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream.

One was delivered to Bronx, NY and the other to Chelsea Piers, New York City.

Chic New York City Birthday Cake

Friday, July 9th, 2010 by rsokhi

We designed this cake for a client who was looking for a sleek NYC-themed cake who also had a large collection of shoes. As you can probably tell, the orange and purple skyline was airbrushed. The stiletto was gum-paste.

Our New Website!

Thursday, July 1st, 2010 by rsokhi

Hi everybody–it’s been a LONG time since we last posted! We’ve been super busy making cakes, meeting with new clients, and even launching our new website–something we’re unofficially calling “3.0″.

You’ll find that the site now has much better search capabilities, for starters. Thumbnails are included in the search, something that seems like a “duh”, but was a little difficult to achieve. Also, the blog has been given a makeover–it’s now fully powered by Wordpress. And the site itself hopefully has been giving a gloss as well. Any kinks are being sorted out as we speak.

Thanks and look around!

Fresh out of the oven: CMNY Cafe!

Monday, June 8th, 2009 by rsokhi

We would like to thank everyone that was a part of this. As some of you may have noticed, the blogs have been a little quite lately. Well, not only are we super swamped making many of your cakes, we’ve been focusing on the next logical progression of our business–a cafe! Adjacent to our shop location, there has always been a cafe–first called Amazon Cafe and then Perk Place Cafe. Now it’s CMNY Cafe!

The cafe will showcase the culinary and baking talent of our staff. While that may sound vague, the menu is still in the works!  Of course, we will HAVE to have a whole host of desserts, including something I’m enjoying right now–our Decadent Chocolate Cake! No loungy cafe is complete without a complete list of coffees, teas, capaccinos, and espressos. Gelati (plural for Gelato in case you’re wondering) will also be served, as will various sandwiches and paninis.

We’ll be opening the cafe July 1, 2009!

Note that nothing about our specialty cakes will be changing. Both the specialty cakes side and the cafe are located at:

Air Jordans Cake For Vashtie Kola’s Birthday

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009 by rsokhi

We were contacted by a PR agent who came asking for a cake for his client. We of course wondered, who could it be? It turned out to be for Vashtie Kola’s birthday party extravaganza to be held at the Santos nightclub in Manhattan. I was floored because I knew her as the Downtown’s Sweetheart, video music director/New York City fashion icon. Her agent walked in with an Air Jordan sneaker and asked us to recreate it in cake. Check out how it came out:

And here’s a shot with Vashtie and some of her friends in front of it:

Yoda Cake

Monday, April 27th, 2009 by rsokhi

Check out our latest Star Wars cake! It’s Yoda! A lady from the City contacted us about a birthday cake for her son and I guess he was a big fan of Yoda and Star Wars. When we dropped off the cake, we found that the birthday was being held at a school, and we were greeted by a Stormtrooper who directed the way. It turned out that all the kids were dressed up as Star Wars characters…how cool!

Sports-Themed Cakes

Friday, April 10th, 2009 by rsokhi

OK, so we haven’t posted much in the last couple months…but it’s been really busy…I’m sorry! Anyway, we thought we’d get back on track with a montage of cakes, all with sports as the center-theme, especially since baseball season is back. These are great ideas for birthday cakes…boys and girls alike. Now of course, you might be muttering to yourself as you look below at all the New York franchises…but hey…we’re in New York after all! And that said, we do get many cakes for teams all around the country…so don’t worry. And we thought we’d mix up the sports a bit too, so we even have some golf and snowboarding. Enjoy!

Lamborghini Vegas Cake

Saturday, April 4th, 2009 by rsokhi

So this woman contacted us looking for a cake for her boyfriend. She booked a trip to Las Vegas for his birthday…and even rented him a Lamborghini–all of this a surprise! So what could she give him as a birthday cake? Why a Lamborghini made out of cake in front of the Las Vegas Marquis sign of course.

Sugar-Free Means Joy-Free?

Thursday, January 8th, 2009 by rsokhi

For many people, that’s what sugar-free means–absolute devoid of joy and flavor! Well, we’ll tell you that that doesn’t have to be the case. Whether you’re diabetic or just looking to reduce your sugar intake, there are many sugar-free and low-sugar dessert options out there. For one, we make an awesome sugar-free wedding cake using sugar-alcohols. Sugar-alcohols add sweetness to cakes but add relatively few calories and minimal effect on the body’s blood-sugar level. Sugar alcohols, which occur naturally in certain plants, are like sugar in some ways, but they are not completely absorbed by the body. For more information, click here.

We were inspired by Cakella’s blog post on tips for a sugar-free wedding. Check out their tips on wedding cakes and even wines!

December Weddings

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 by rsokhi

Tis the season to be…wedded?? Apparently that’s what a few couples said as they started their lives together this week. It was a particularly heavy week for wedding cakes, and we thought we’d share some of the cakes we made with you!

Wedding Cake in New York City

The cake to the right was a beautiful wedding cake delivered to the Cipriani restaurant in New York City. The couple decided on a popular design with cherry-blossoms on a branch cake. The couple loved orange and red hues, and matched the brides maids’ dresses.

Wedding Cake in NYC

The next cake was another wedding cake delivered to NYC, this time to the Bryant Park Grill. The couple favored a more classic bridal gown white look, and loved the quilted diamond look. As an added touch, the couple went with elegant white roses and a fondant bow topper.

Wedding Cake in Suffolk County

This cake was for a couple that wanted a more wonky and free-spirited design. They held their wedding in out east in Suffolk county.

Congratulations to all who tied the knot in the past week!
