Fresh out of the oven: CMNY Cafe!

Monday, June 8th, 2009 by rsokhi

We would like to thank everyone that was a part of this. As some of you may have noticed, the blogs have been a little quite lately. Well, not only are we super swamped making many of your cakes, we’ve been focusing on the next logical progression of our business–a cafe! Adjacent to our shop location, there has always been a cafe–first called Amazon Cafe and then Perk Place Cafe. Now it’s CMNY Cafe!

The cafe will showcase the culinary and baking talent of our staff. While that may sound vague, the menu is still in the works!  Of course, we will HAVE to have a whole host of desserts, including something I’m enjoying right now–our Decadent Chocolate Cake! No loungy cafe is complete without a complete list of coffees, teas, capaccinos, and espressos. Gelati (plural for Gelato in case you’re wondering) will also be served, as will various sandwiches and paninis.

We’ll be opening the cafe July 1, 2009!

Note that nothing about our specialty cakes will be changing. Both the specialty cakes side and the cafe are located at:

2945 Hempstead Tpke.
Levittown, New York
(between Bally Total Fitness and Petco)

While it is not our intention to endorse one candidate over another, I would like to congratulate Barack Obama on a gracious and historic victory.

Island Harvest Taste of the Harvest Celebration

Long Island Harvest Bulldog

Well yesterday was the 15th annual Island Harvest “Taste of the Harvest Celebration” at Crest Hollow Country Club, Woodbury, New York. It was great, it was a fund-raiser to raise money for the hungry on Long Island. While turn-out was a little low (we surmised it was because of the economy), there were some interesting guests. I know the Rechler family was there, one half of the God Squad (actually they both might have been there) and even Produce Pete (never saw him, although I didn’t look that hard). And do people listen to Jim Douglas and Kim Berk on KJOY? I don’t know, but they were there, and they auctioned off some gifts for charity.

All in all, it was fun event that was for a noble cause. Turn out was fine all things considered, and some of the gifts auctioned off were interesting, such as tickets to the new Citi Field and even a Bill Clinton’s signed necktie.

And as promised, check out our Yale Bulldog redux! We decided on modelling chocolate. We’ll get a cleaned up image up soon and will link to it. By the way, we thought it would be cute if the guy was leaning on a cake instead of the “Y”. It’s like he’s saying, “you know what, I’m so rock-solid, I can even lean on this cake!”

The site’s up!

cakesbymona.comThat’s right…the site’s up! We still have the old site up at cakesbymona.com, so that will still be the main site for the next couple of months or so. Once we have all the content we’d like on here, we’ll take the plunge and make cmnycakes.com our official website. Look for that to happen around January 1, 2009 Q4 2008 *edited 11/1/2008*. Until then, be sure to stop by anyway as we will be adding a ton of cake demonstrations, tips and advice, as well as random posts about our cakes as they happen.
